Quality checkers are a new initiative we started to introduce in September last year. We invited you and the people you support to get involved in helping us learn how we can do better and be better for the people we support across the country. Because who better to test out what good support looks like than you?
Since then, we’ve grown to 24 active quality checkers who’ve carried out 29 quality conversations with Shared Lives carers and people we support so far.
Who are quality checkers?
Our quality checkers include people living in Shared Lives, people who access support in our day centres and wellbeing service and Shared Lives carers too.
What's a quality conversation?
Our quality checkers have a 30-60 minute chat with supported people and carers to learn about people’s experiences, knowledge and areas for improvement. Our quality checkers have travelled across the country to meet in person as well as having quality conversations online.
We’ve been focusing on three key themes so far:
- Peoples experiences of how welcome/homely their PSS support/Shared Lives arrangement is.
- People’s knowledge and experiences of raising a concern around things like safeguarding, complaints, concerns or whistleblowing.
- Managing conflict.
How are quality checkers rewarded?
Quality checkers are thanked for their time with a £25 Love2Shop voucher or social events and we’re getting lots of positive feedback from people that they are loving being involved in this really important work. It’s helping us to pull together lots of evidence of how incredible the work you do is, which we fully intend to shout to the rooftops about with everyone who needs to know, like our inspectors and regulators.
What have they found out so far?
We’ve gained lots of valuable feedback and great ideas about how we can improve our support. One area we know we need to work on is making sure our ‘Tell Us’ procedures are more widely known about and that we make it easy and accessible for people to raise a concern and give their feedback to their local team or the Tell Us team at head office.
We’re going to be working on improving this and relaunching ‘Tell Us’ over the coming months in response to some of our quality checker findings.
How can I join in?
Our next quality checker meeting will be the 12th March 10:30-12:00 and in person or online attendance is possible.
You can join online or face to face at our PSS head office in Liverpool. If you’d like more information and the link to join, please get in touch with Joe on joseph.tyson@pss.org.uk or call 0151 7025555.
