Here at PSS Shared Lives, we really value and support everyone who is part of our world, we’re so proud to hear about the amazing achievement of one of our team members in North Yorkshire.
Jayah McFegan, who is one of our Shared Lives development workers, has just completed the London Landmarks Half Marathon 2026 and raised almost £500 for Tommy’s which is the UK’s leading pregnancy charity that funds research into preventing miscarriage, stillbirth, and premature birth, aiming to make pregnancy safer.
We’re all so proud of Jayah here at PSS Shared Lives. We think she’s amazing. We caught up with her to chat about her achievement.
Jayah, what kind of training did you do for the half marathon?
‘I go for a run on an evening a few times a week and I made sure that I was doing a variety of different lengths of runs to build stamina. I have a treadmill at home to use when the weather is bad. Lots of pasta in the week before the run!’
What was it like running with everyone in London?
‘The feeling was unmatched. I was overwhelmed with the crowds that come out to cheer you on and the sense of togetherness that you feel when you are running with over 20,000 strangers. The highlight was running past the Church of St Mary-le-Bow with the Bow Bells ringing.’
Did you enjoy it?
‘I went through all of the emotions whilst actually running it, at the time I don’t think enjoyment was the right description, as I was running on adrenaline and nerves. Looking back, I loved it and would do it all again.’
Are you planning any more marathons?
‘Absolutely. I originally applied for the London Marathon this year, but did not get chosen in the ballot, and that’s when I applied for the London half marathon. I’m still aiming to do a marathon or another half marathon but will be looking for one more local and when places start to open for the 2027 races.’
Anything else you wanted to say about the experience?
‘It was a day that I’ll never forget, and despite the highs and lows I felt whilst actually running it, I’ve come away with the most amazing sense of achievement, and I am so proud of raising almost £500 for Tommy’s charity. I would recommend a half marathon to anyone, even if you’re not a runner, just for the experience and of course the bragging rights of being able to say you have done one!’
