Timothy, who is one of our supported people in our PSS Shared Lives North Yorkshire service recently celebrated a huge milestone in his life.
Timothy has been at his work placement for 40 years! He joined Horticap when he was just 20 years old and has been a student there ever since. Isn’t that incredible!
Timothy's Shared Lives carer said:
‘Timothy loves gardening, he’s been a valued member of the team at Horticap for 40 years, everyone is well supported up there. Me and Timothy work together in our garden at home, it’s such an achievement for him and it’s an amazing placement for our guys.’
‘Timothy’s a happy young man of 60, we had his 60th birthday party at Horticap last year and all the student celebrated, it’s such an achievement and we’re all so proud.’

Timothy also had another big milestone. He celebrated his 60th birthday last year at Horticap with all of his friends, him and his Shared Lives carer wanted to share the video of him celebrating.

What is Horticap?
Located at Bluecoat Wood Nurseries in Harrogate, Horticap is an independent, registered charity who provide adults with learning and other disabilities training in horticulture, allied crafts and rural skills.
Horticap’s aim is to provide students who have learning and other disabilities with a supportive and friendly working environment, so that they may develop their social and communication abilities. They aim to help students extend their knowledge and skills, through structured training using professionally qualified staff and volunteers.

Shared Lives is about helping someone achieve their dreams
Shared Lives is more than opening your home to an adult, it’s about sharing your hopes and dreams together. For example, Timothy, he wouldn’t be able to do the things he does and live his life to fullest without the love, dedication and support of his Shared Lives carers.
Timothy’s carer has helped him to live a fulfilled and joyful life, every day he is excited and happy to go to his placement at Horticap.
