PSS Shared Lives carer, Karen, in the final of Wales Care Awards

We are over the moon to announce that one of our amazing Shared Lives carers, Karen Jackson, has been shortlisted as a finalist in the 2024 Wales Care Awards!

Karen has been nominated for the Supported Living or Small Group Community Living Care Practitioner Award, and it’s no surprise to us why she’s in the limelight.

Karen has been a Shared Lives carer with PSS for over 17 years, but her career in care spans even longer. She opened her home in Colwyn Bay to care for adults with complex mental health needs, offering them more than just a safe space – she provides love, dignity, and the chance to thrive.

Karen sits in her garden on a sunny day - she smiles warmly at the camera and her hands are placed politely on her lap as she sits down among the trees. She's wearing a navy top and she's a blong, white woman in her 50s.

Nine years ago, she welcomed a gentleman with mental health challenges and a tough background into her home, and since then, she’s helped him completely turn his life around. He’s now brimming with confidence, gets out and about in the community, and feels like a valued part of a family. Karen’s dedication doesn’t stop there – she’s also been supporting a woman with similar mental health challenges, helping her grow in confidence and independence.

We couldn’t be prouder of Karen and everything she’s achieved.

The winners of the Wales Care Awards will be announced on October 18th, and we’re all cheering Karen on! You can read more about her incredible story in this news article.

Good luck, Karen! We know you’ll continue to inspire others, no matter the outcome.
