PSS joins The Black United Representation Network (BURN) to strengthen its Board.

We’re over the moon to have joined The Black United Representation Network (BURN) as a membership organisation. This partnership is a big step for us. We can’t wait to share what it means for the future of PSS.

Making PSS a truly equitable organisation

Here at PSS, we’re committed to creating a culture where everyone who walks through our doors feels like they truly belong. We believe that everyone should feel able to bring their true self to work and feel a deep sense of respect, care and belonging. We know that society doesn’t give everyone the same opportunities in life – we want this to change and we want to be part of the solution, but we can only do this by working with and learning from others.

Since 2020, we’ve been working with the Social Justice Collective to understand where and how we can become a more equitable organisation. As part of our work, it’s important to us that we have a diverse Board who can lead us with lots of different perspectives, including lived experience. We know not everyone has the same chances, so we want to help give someone who perhaps hasn’t been given the opportunity to become a trustee yet, the chance to become part of our Board in a unique way.

We’re going to be working with the lovely folks at BURN to help us recruit a new Board apprentice. As a Board apprentice, our new recruit will learn the ropes as they go, get loads of support from both PSS and BURN, and use their voice to help shape our organisation. This isn’t just about filling a seat – it’s about bringing in fresh viewpoints and ideas that can help us do even better work, and about giving someone the opportunity to really thrive as a PSS leader. A board that truly represents our diverse society will make PSS stronger and more effective.

We’re big fans of BURN’s important work, and we’re so excited to be working with them.

Why BURN?

BURN is all about making sure Black voices are heard and represented at senior leadership levels. Co-production is really important to us. We love that we share an understanding with BURN that networks and partnerships can be a really powerful basis to reaching our goals in the right way. We know we’ll be able to achieve lots with them by our side.

BURN said: ‘To say that we are excited to have PSS as corporate members of The Black United Representation Network, would be an understatement. From the moment that we met Mandy Howe and the team, we knew immediately that not only are there clear synergies between our organisations but they share in our belief of the creation of a society where every single person can thrive, no matter who they are. Together, we will not only be stronger, we will be transformational. #StrongerTogether
